It is a proven fact that when a disaster or emergency strikes, it is the people, communities, witness and victims themselves who are first on the scene. Therefore any training that we can get to prepare ourselves and support our families and communities may prove invaluable. ERT SAR training and community programmes are an important part of this Capacity Building.

When possible, emergency services teams are the best trained and equipped to handle emergencies. However, following a catastrophic disaster, you and the community may be on your own for a period of time because of the overwhelming size of the disaster and the size of the area affected, loss of communication and impassable roads. It is possible that rescue teams may not get to you for a while or that others may need your help so this training is invaluable.
The emergency services personnel will not be able to help everyone immediately, and communities can make a difference by taking responsibility for their own resilience and building their capacities in the face of potential or real disasters and emergencies.
By participating in actively capacity building projects we arer confident that this will also encourage an increased interest in Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) and Community Resilience.
